Pregnancy Hair Fun!

Even though I really dislike pregnancy, one of the best things besides getting to have a miracle from God at the end, is the effects of pregnancy on your hair and sometimes even your skin!

All the growth hormones and boost of estrogen make your hair typically really luscious and thick – as well as shiny and soft!

It. Is. Amazing.

And my husband LOVES it and comments on it all the time ๐Ÿ˜€ ย Which makes me really happy LOL

Apparently… and I kind of sort of knew this before, there are supplements and vitamins you can take specifically to mimic this effect for a woman’s hair when you’re *not* pregnant. ย I know the main ones I try to take are just basic vitamins along with fish oil supplements.

Typically during this postpartum period though, a woman’s hair falls out in chunks if she’s extra stressed, not able to find a balance between the sleep deprivation, or forgetting to take vitamins or supplements to try to keep the sudden and dramatic loss of estrogen at bay. ย Even if she IS doing all these things, she may still lose a ton of hair after the baby.

  1. While pregnant and couple of months after I had the most amazing hair. And than came that time when I thought I will go bold ๐Ÿ˜ I got stressed about it so obviously this got me to lose more hair. Eventually I got back to my normal days – thin hair, falling sometimes but not bad overall

  2. When I was expecting my doc said during pregnancy, instead of going thru the normal grow, shed, rest cycle, with 1/3 of the hair in each state, it all just is in the grow phase. So after baby, it suddenly shifts back to 1/3 being in the “shed” phase, which can be quite shocking :/ what I miss is pregnancy and nursing really seemed to kick my metabolism into high gear and I could eat like a teenage boy! Now I have to be more careful ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Aw Bloom, you’re lucky you could eat like that when pregnant! I have to be REALLY careful, I gain weight very fast during pregnancy and my body clings to fat and it’s really hard to lose it. Nursing though is great! Tons of calories burning!! Yea I know it’s so great to have that faster metabolism. I’m training myself now how to eat normal so that I don’t get so used to eating bigger portions and bad foods like last time.

  4. Yes, you doctor said it was unusual! I could barely put on the 25 pounds she wanted, even with a hot fudge sundae every day! And yes re nursing, especially past 6 months. I used to joke it was like having my own liposuction machine! ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t miss the being super tired all the time, tho. Nursing takes a lot out of you, literally! ๐Ÿ™‚
