Meet the Newest Little Member of Our Family

tupac tupac1

Yesterday we embarked on a 19 hour journey to pick up this adorable, energetic ball of JOY puppy!  Our newest member of the family, “Super Dog!”

We all woke up around 3:30AM, had everything already packed and ready to go, jumped in the car and head off at 4AM to beat the traffic in our surrounding cities.

We made a stop in Round Rock to eat some awesome breakfast tacos.  If you’ve never had a Texas breakfast taco, you are missing out on something amazing!

It was one of my husband’s favorite restaurants that he went to growing up.

The baby had his own toy dalmatian to play with…  happy baby!

Everything really IS bigger in Texas….  The famous Round Rock donuts (Texas-sized) are great to share with friends.

Do Not Eat Alone.

We passed miles and miles of country farms and fields… Texas country is so beautiful.  We were supposed to sleep during the drive, and the baby actually did – for almost the entire trip that baby slept beautifully!  But my son and I were too excited to get any real sleep –  everything was just gorgeous!

There is nothing quite like small town living.  If you’ve never grown up in a small town, you might not understand what I mean, but having a community of people who know you – when you know you can’t go anywhere without running into someone that you know, its just a sweet existence that city living cannot replace.  Growing up, I couldn’t go anywhere without seeing someone we knew, friends, family, parents of friends, teachers from school (lol try to explaining why you aren’t studying for a Chemistry test to your Chem teacher who sees you out at a fair with friends!).  You’d see coaches while you were trying to eat pizza and drink sodas… church folk, and even your pastor!

Talk about accountability.

We finally got there!  The puppy was so sweet and took to our son immediately.

The drive back took almost 10 hours because of stops and visiting with some family (Great Grandparents) along the way.  I had no idea traveling with kids would have so many potty breaks – it was hilarious!

The puppy was so cuddly I couldn’t believe it – so different from a cat!  It slept most of the way, when he wasn’t cuddling with us… only threw up once in the car (at the beginning of the trip back), and didn’t have ANY accidents!  He knew to wait until a rest stop to go in the grass smart pup!

When we finally got home around 10:30PM, this is what the puppy ended up looking like – asleep on the floor board and hard to wake up (traveling is hard you know?).  LOL  So cute.

And now… we’re officially a DOG family!  ❤

  1. Aw, how adorable! 🙂

But, um…Dalmatians are REALLY high maintenance. We had one for 12 years. Good thing you have a yard. He’ll keep you on your toes. 🙂

  2. Oh wow! Tell us everything you know Liz! We’re always active, he’ll be doing everything with us for sure… and we have a great sized yard (not really big, but definitely big enough), a trampoline for him to play on, a kiddie pool, and a good neighborhood to walk him around. We just took him for a walk this morning 🙂

  3. “Tell us everything you know Liz!”
I don’t want to scare you, and want you to enjoy this puppy phase. LOL! All dogs are different I’m sure. They have so much energy, and they are very smart but (unfortunately) tend to be recalcitrant. I ran with him a lot, and he liked to swim. 🙂

Ours had skin allergies, and those are pretty common to the breed…our in laws had a dalmatian with the same problem, and they had to feed him some chicken and rice type food only. You probably know deafness runs in that breed, too (but you’d probably know if your puppy was deaf, we had a friend with a deaf dalmatian…it was born that way). Sometimes they get him problems, ours did at around age four. Glucosamine/chondroitin vitamins worked surprisingly well for that. Hopefully you won’t have any problems, but they’re purebred so sometimes things happen.

I think dogs are awesome for children, and especially little boys.
Congrats on your adorable new member of the family!
    🙂

  4. SO. CUTE. We have talked about getting my Boxer a wife. He’s ten, so she’d have to be half plus seven 😉

Liz: “him” problems…I’m adding that phrase to my vocabulary 🙂

  5. Ah, welcome to the puppy club! We just got not one but TWO puppies:

You’re young and used to getting up at with a baby, but I’m 46 and haven’t had a baby in a number of years, so this getting up with a crying pup at 1:00, 3:00, and 5:00 a.m. is torture! 🙂

  6. ““him” problems…I’m adding that phrase to my vocabulary ”

    Hee hee. Me too!
That was kind of a fun Freudian slip. 😛

  7. OH. Oh dear God that…that puppy. That puppy makes even me catch the puppy bug, and I’ve sworn off puppies until the end of time (not the dalmatian, Dragonflygirl, I have two mutts now).

“getting up with a crying pup at 1:00, 3:00, and 5:00 a.m. is torture!”
    Hey….I thought you had minions.
And it’s summer! Delegation is the sweetest word in the English language. 😉

  8. Welcome Sunshine… haha yes, it IS like having a a third child! I went nearly crazy by the end of yesterday trying to juggle all of them, my 5 year old just isn’t quite ready to be in charge of the dog all himself even though we are putting all the responsibility on him right now. Your puppies are SO CUTE!

Side note: I can’t believe how much you’ve been through… I’m so sorry I think I added to it my own stupid way back then.

  9. It sounds like you all had a wonderful family day filled with excitement, fun stops and the joy of bringing home a cute, wonderful new family memeber. I hope that your newest member of the family enjoyies setteling into your loving home. I’m sure both your boys will love the experiences and joys of growing up with a loving family pet. I’m glad your wonderful long day went so well.

  10. Our family pet of 15 years passed last week. That he was such a wonderful part of our lives – essentially our 4th kid – was evident in our grief and our fond memories. I pray this pup has a great life with you!

  11. Great travelogue! Full of good humor, good sense, and good family times, all accented with great photos! You’re a wonderful photographer, with a keen eye for how to set a mood with a picture!

So nice to see your puppy-seeking saga come to such a happy end for you and your family!

I’m a new fan of your writing, your photography and your blog.

    Best,

    — x

  12. They’re such good friends, and such cheerful, fun-loving, happiness-bringing members of the family! I’m glad you were able to find him, and that he was able to find you.

    Best,

    — x
