St. Patrick’s Day on the Riverwalk

Yesterday we took my mom to our city’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration.  Every year, since I used to dance in the street parade, it’s been something of a tradition.  My oldest son’s first time there was when I was pregnant with him, I felt him jump inside me when a firetruck in the parade honked its horn!

The Irish music is always great – we love the atmosphere and the people, the weather was beautiful, too, adding to experience.

This is the season that the arts and craftsmen come every month to show their work on the river.

  1. It was during the summer so it was pretty muggy and pretty dark. I walked from the Marriott RW waaaay down to some television station on the walk. It looked pretty sketchy there. I was younger and riskier then. I once did the same thing in New Orleans from Tulane to the Hyatt Superdome in the dark. Again young and dumb. I remember the “cats” on the Riverwalk. They moved quick but didn’t seem to have “cat” tails though. 🙂

  2. It is a wonderful tradition that you go downtown for St. Patrick’s day and great that even now you and your husband take the time as a family to still go and enjoy the crafts and other arts that have been brought out to be sold. I hope you had a wonderful time and will be able to go every year and enjoy it.

  3. My husband hasn’t been able to go with us for the past couple of years due to his work – but maybe next year he might switch or use Comp time. It is fun but we definitely miss going with him. Last year we went with my brother (who refused to wear Green… ON ST. PATRICK’S DAY!). And then this year, we (really I) took my mom, which was great, she loved it and hadn’t been on the Riverwalk for a long time.

  4. I’m so sorry your husband hasn’t been able to come due to work the last few times. I am still happy that you are exposing your children to the cultural offerings the city has and enjoying it yourself. I’m glad you got to go with your Mom and brother, even if he wouldn’t wear green. I hope your husband can work out to go with you in the future.
